Start the New Year Smarter with Online College

Here are a couple articles about online courses available for free on the web. You get lectures, homework and tests, but no interaction with the professors and no college credit. They're great for homeschoolers, lifelong learners or students at other college who want the information. High schoolers can verify learning and possibly earn credit with CLEP, AP or SAT subject tests (although these classes are not specifically keyed to these tests, so reviewing specific study guides would also be necessary).

To Whom This May Concern:

As you might already know, Rich Weinfeld and Michelle Davis are launching a 13 week Internet Radio Show called “Teach Your Children Well: Hot Topics in Education” which will air on the VoiceAmerica™ Network beginning on April 18, 2008. “Teach Your Children Well: Hot Topics in Education” is the network's first and only show dedicated to exploring issues in schools and school systems that can make the difference between what we are and what we could be as a society.

The topic of the first show (April 18th) is “My best teacher ever was….” How can we identify and cultivate outstanding teaching? We are seeking responses to this topic from students and would greatly appreciate it if you would have your students respond to this prompt by Monday, April, 14th. Please email responses to specialneedsadvocacy@msn.com by April 16.

Some considerations for students might include the following: how interactions with an outstanding teacher have shaped their lives, what are the characteristics of an outstanding teacher, and how a superior teacher goes above and beyond what is expected of them.

The Milken Education Awards and its Teacher Advancement Program have received recognition for their work in identifying and cultivating outstanding teachers. During the show, Michelle and Rich will explore this topic with Todd White, Senior Vice President of Training for the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching and a former winner of the Milken Educator Award. Selected student responses to “My best teacher ever was…” will be read throughout the show.

Many thanks for your support.
